A Few Of My Favorite Things.... brooches!

.
I'm an accessory kind-of-gal! ..Watches, bags, scarves, you name it!  Lately, I've been especially crazy about brooches!  I'm in love with the new styles, shapes, textures, and colors that have been coming out! And... just like any accessory, they can add that finishing touch to any outfit!

--------------------------
After Thanksgiving {with Christmas quickly approaching} I started looking for a festive, red brooch. Something versatile, that I could wear casual or formal, with various colors, and then year-a-round.
I found this brooch at Monte Cristos Jewelry.com and did/ do like it. I like it's star-shape and the beads.  But for $55??!  No thanks!

After looking for a couple days and not finding anything, I decided I'd just have to make my own.
Here's what I came up with....

I put it on an alligator clip so it's versatile.

I can wear it in my hair, as a brooch, on a belt, on a scarf, etc
--------------------------

Once I finished my "Christmas" brooch I got on a kick and went brooch crazy!
Next, I tried my hand at a pom-pom brooch.

I love how festive and fun pom-poms are!

{*For a great and easy tutorial check out scrunch-fabric-flower-pom-pom
on Little Miss Momma's blogspot!}

Here's how my first pom-pom brooch turned out.....

I tried using white felt to create a fuzzy, warm look. It's kinda flat & flowery, but I like it

Last but not least, I made a fun-flower out of wide trim or ribbon.

Wishing you and yours; a healthy, and blessed New Year!

Christmas break!!

.
I am super-excited to officially be on Christmas break!!  {I have off until January 3.}  Blake and I have about a week and a half off together.  We're looking forward to some good family time, fun and relaxation!   Ohhh!... and I almost forgot to mention the baziiiillion unfinished projects around the house, that HAVE to be finished!
#1 on my "to do" list is tackle the kitchen! - literally!!   When we moved into our new home, the bedrooms were priority.  I found some cheap curtains & decor. that would "work"  until we had time to "do it right!"  Well the time has come to "do it right!"... because I can't take it anymore!!!   ~  Within the next couple days I plan to paint, re-decorate, and pick out cabinet hardware.  [My fingers are crossed about B getting the tile backslash put up.]

- This is our current kitchen, some minor changes have been made since pic. was taken.

Stay tuned for a make-over post!

Have a good evening!

DIY Paint can Storage

With 4 little ones in the house, toys seem to disappear rather quickly.  I'm always looking for inexpensive ways to organize and store them, and here's a great way!

SUPPLIES:                                               - 1 gallon paint can
- hot glue gun or modge-podge
- scrap fabric or scrapbook paper
-----------------------------------------------

First, wash & dry the paint can.
I dug through my craft paper stash, and pulled out scraps and some leftover ribbon too.
Once the can was completely dry I started to arrange & modge-podge the paper,
covering the bucket and gluing it into place.

Fin
After covering the can, and adding some ribbon,
 I added a label... "TRAINS."

For not spending a cent on this project, I'm happy with the outcome!
[Alex also thinks it's fun too!]

Happy Organizing!
