Thankful Thursday #5

A quick Thankful Thursday!

Today, I am especially thankful for....

Helping Hands.   Like the saying goes, "many hands make the load light"... how true!  Today my Mother-in-law and I worked {approx} 50 pint of corn for our freezers.  We enjoyed a day of laughter, chit-chat, and work.  It's amazing how fellowship and helping hands make a tedious task fun, and enjoyable!

Mama "S".   Speaking of my Mother-in-law {Sarah}.... I am forever grateful that "Mama S" is still with us.  Last month we remembered one year since she was diagnosed with breast cancer.  She is an amazing woman of faith, love, and hospitality!

Take a peak at her new hair, isn't it beautiful?!
 It is growing back thick and full of body.  {What a blessing!}

What are YOU thankful for today??

Lavender. the herb

My lavender patches have done exceptionally well this summer. I love having an abundance of it,  it's fun to play with and share.

Here are a few of my favorite uses.......

Place-setting decor. and favors.

Adding it into bouquets.

1/4 - 1/2 cup fresh or dried lavender {I prefer fresh.}
2 cups boiling water
3/4 cup white sugar
8 lemons
5 cups cold water, or as needed

After stripping lavender buds from stem, place the lavender into a pitcher, and pour boiling water over it.
Allow to steep for about 10 minutes. Strain out the lavender and discard, if you prefer.
Mix the sugar into the hot lavender water, add plenty of ice.
Squeeze the lemons into the pitcher, using all the juice. Top off the pitcher with cold water, and stir.

*You can also use a lemonade mix with this recipe, instead of fresh squeezed lemons

I hope ya'll have a relaxing weekend! Keep cool!

Thankful Thursdays #4

A Thankful Thursday....

  Little ones.   My life is consumed with little ones, and I am constantly being reminded and shown the 'child-like' faith I should have, I want to have.  I am thankful for the blessing of children in my life, the example that they are.

...."Behold, children are a heritage from the LORD, the fruit of the womb a reward. Like arrows in the hand of a warrior are the children of one’s youth. Blessed is the man who fills his quiver with them!" -Psalms 127:3.

 Summer. Long days, warm evenings, baseball, grilling, garden, picnics, swimming, and the list goes on. I am thankful for the different seasons, especially summer!

What are YOU thankful for this evening?

My little man is a fish..... truely.  He loves water!  - Every morning after breakfast {if the sun is shining} he asks for his "swimmin'soups."  Some days I can barely get him to come in for lunch.

Thankful Thursdays #3

I've mentioned before, at the begining of the year I made a goal to become a more thankful person. {hence, 'Thankful Thursdays'.}  The last several months I feel I've made great strides. We have faced some rough times and hard situations, but yet I find myself still praising Him... "in this storm." Isn't that what it's all about? Praising God in all of life's circumstances?! Yes!  A big part too, is me maturing as a person, as a Christian.  What Christ did for me {and continually does} has become so evident, real, and personal to me in the last year.  The fact that I am nothing without him. .... I am forever grateful for his love and acceptance of me.

Today I am especially thankful for...

Heaven.  This world is a dark, evil place. We all witnessed that this past week, as we remembered the life of a precious little girl, Caylee Anthony.  The only thing that gives me peace about the situtation/ murder /trial, is the fact that I know Caylee is now perfect.  She is with Jesus.... happy and pain-free.  We don't know why these things happen in life, but I hope and pray that someone, somewhere will be touched by Caylee's heart-breaking story [somehow] and will start searching, seeking Christ.

Also, I wanted to share about a book my Mama and Aunt recomended to me, "Heaven is for real" by Todd Burpo.  You may have heard of it already or read it, it's a hot topic.  I borrowed the book, and read through the thing in two days. I could not put it down... seriously.  I encourage each of you to read it!  I have a whole new perspective of death and heaven.

*[If you are a Mom who has experienced the loss of a child: this book is a MUST! You will find such healing and peace through this book.]

 Freedom. This past Monday, our nation celebrated Independance Day. A time to remember and celebrate.   I am so grateful for those who made, and make it possible for us to live comfortably, Worship freely, make our own decisions, and the list goes on.    I like what Sher Zieve says... "It is Independence Day — an independence that was and is drenched in the blood of our citizens who were and are willing to die for freedom from tyranny and to maintain liberty. Those fighting to preserve the freedom and sovereignty of the United States of America have courageously chosen their sacrifices — so that the rest of us can live and sleep in the security of knowing that we will wake up to new days filled with new promises for the fulfillment of our lives. Those troops fighting to keep wars away from the USA are well aware of their importance to the survival of our country. I applaud, revere and pray for their courage and their lives."

As the song says "God bless America," and yes, so be it. But also, may America bless God!

 Garden. On a lighter note, I am thankful for a garden that supplies our little family with fresh, organic veggies.  Each summer, I am plesantly suprised by my lower grocery bills, what a blessing!  It's amazing how much you save by growing your own produce. And my favorite part.... the canned/ frozen goodness you enjoy all year long!

What are you thankful for today?

'Surely you have granted him unending blessings and made him glad with the joy of your presence.'  - Psalms 21:6
